All Natural Herbal Remedies and Recipes for Chickens

Question: Would you use a different amount or percentage of the herb if it is fresh vs. using it dried? It's my understanding that the oils are more concentrated in the dried herb and you need to use more if using fresh.

Just wondering. Thanks!
Absolutely , thank you for pointing that out.
You use 2 x dried to 1x fresh
Example. If a recipe calls for 2 tsp dried basil and you want to use fresh you would use 1 tsp fresh basil. The oils are not concentrated in the dried, they lose potency when they are dried.

MaidenWolf I like the addition of what the herb does as you're listing the ingredients. Helps me see why each item is being used.

That is how I have it listed in my recipe book. I do that for my own record so that if I out of that particular herb I can find one that has the same action to replace it.

My favorite thing to use for a wound wash is witchhazel in which I have added 10 drops of lavender essential oil.
A quick way to make a salve--- Make an infused herbal oil, by adding your chosen herbs to a couple cups of olive, safflower, jojoba oil etc leave to sit and infuse for a couple weeks shaking once a day. Strain and you have your oil. To each cup of oil add 1/4 cup beeswax. Heat until beeswax is completely melted ( low and slow is best here) Use a small glas bowl to put a tsp of the mix in the freezer and let set up if it is too soft add more beeswax, too hard add oil. While the finished product is till hot pour into fars or tins. Store in cool dark place.

A great salve for burns, cuts, wounds, is an anti-inflammatory, anti bacterial, and anti microbial
using the method above, add these dried herbs to the oil
3 tsp calendula
3 tsp comfrey
3 tsp st. johns wort
3 tsp lavender
