All they do is play with the golf balls and wont lay in nest boxes

What do I do know?? I see them in the nesting boxes now and then but all they seem to do is play with the golf balls by moving them around then lay either under the boxes or on my plastic tote I keep feed in.
Granted they have only just started laying, Charlotte has been at it for almost a week. Then yesterday we got 3 eggs (one from Charlotte) and ? on the other two. But one was in the exact spot Charlotte lays in every time.
So do I put something in the way so she cant lay there or what??

Or do I just have weirdo chickens who like to play golf and lay somewhere else.

Maybe you need to provide them with a putter too.

I suppose you could try leaving a real egg in the nest box, or a more realistic fake egg. Or experiment with a new nesting box with a different shape and different materials.

Maybe try placing the hen into the nest box around the time she is due to lay, if you know when that is? I am going to try the fake egg idea, as ours hasn't laid in the nest box yet either!

I imagine it takes them a few weeks to sort all of the newness out!

My new bunch have been laying about a month. They laid all over the coop, in and out of the next boxes, for a while. Today EVERY egg was in a nest box. I use golf balls. Thank you, girls.
