Hi...a boy is no longer called a Jake when he is one year old. You will notice his tail feathers will be all even instead of the center feathers just a bit taller than the rest. Six months is too early for a hen to lay. Girls usually begin laying the spring after they hatch, which unless your girl was a very late hatch, will make her about a year when breeding season comes along. About the same for the boys...they practice all their moves but aren't very good at getting the breeding thing down until they are closer to a year old.
