all who are hatching quail

My ebay "jumbo coturnix quail" are five weeks old and range from 6-8, maybe 9 ounces at most? Is this how big they should be? I thoufht perhaps more. Does 94 degree weather slow growth down?

I was in the same boat with ebay eggs. Give them another month and the hens should reach 11 or 12. Rate of growth is a bit slower than with, say, the JMF jumbos, but they should get close if the eggs were from halfway decent stock.

Just got my first quail today. I have 13 goldens. I have 13 coturnix eggs and 14 Georgia giant eggs in my homebator.

You just got them and already set them? I always leave eggs to sit for a while after receiving them from shipping. As far as I know, this is an important step. 24 hrs seems to be most recommended.

My chicks are 3 1/2 weeks old and got moved to larger grow out cages so as I was moving them I checked to see what ratio of males to females I got with the 45 chicks. I got 21 males and 22 females.

Two are white so I have to wait a bit for them to tell what sex they are, its much quicker with the browns. I'm happy with this ratio since I was wanting to set up a couple of new breeding groups. I've already separated out my 12 biggest females, now I just have to see who the two lucky males will be...and who gets to hang around as back ups. I'm trying to decide if I should bother selling any of the rest or just send them to freezer camp.

I set 120 more eggs, they go on lock down on the 14th. They are in my newly refurbished cabinet incubator so I'm hoping for a much better hatch this time.
