Lucy Goosie is a large White Chinese female, approximately 3 years old. Her elderly companion has just died, and we would like to find Lucy a SAFE, loving home with a pond she can swim in, and one or more other feathered friends. Lucy lays beautiful eggs and is a talker!

Hi catnut! I know this post is old, but were you able to find Lucy a home? I just lost one of my geese and the lone one is quite depressed. I don't have a pond but they have a very nice coop and run with a pool to swim in and lots of free range time!

Hi Chickerdoodle13,

Many thanks for your message - you are the first and only responder. I'm very sorry to hear about your recent loss, and that your remaining goose is lonely and depressed. Happily for Lucy (and for me), we have already found a solution to our dilemma. A nearby friend of mine has had a single male Pekin duck for a long time, following the loss of his brother. That duck came to live with Lucy several weeks ago and the two became happy companions almost immediately. So, I have stopped my efforts to find a new home for Lucy. We are happy to keep her since it was going to be very difficult for me to let her go, but I just thought I might be able to find her a situation which would be in her best long term interest. The only unfortunate part is that the normal life span of a Pekin duck is 9-11 years, and Aflac is already 5 years old. Chinese geese can live to be 30, so Lucy is highly likely to someday once again be looking for a new buddy, but we're hoping that will be 5 years or more down the road. We'll deal with it as it comes......

I very much hope that you will soon find a new companion for your goose. I am heavily involved in animal rescue work (primarily cats, but sometimes dogs and very occasionally other creatures), so when I was looking for a goose, I ideally wanted to rescue one who was in need of a good home. I was not successful with finding such a goose, so ended up buying Lucy from a place called Future Visions Farm located in Greentown, PA (futurevisionsfarms.com). They had a large group of geese at the time, perhaps 30 or more, though Lucy was the only Chinese hen, which was the specific breed I wanted. I paid $20 for her! I just now checked their site and they are not showing that they have geese currently, but I would certainly suggest inquiring despite that. Or, perhaps your goose would be happy with a duck as a companion, and you might find it much easier to find an available duck.

Please let me know how you make out. I'm hoping there will be a happy ending for you and your depressed goose! :)
