Hey y’all! If you happened across my other thread in this forum, I am a new goosie parent! It’s incredibly exciting! But it also means lots of research, and lots of questions!
I have 2 white Chinese geese, and was just curious about egg laying. I have read so many different things, ranging from “expect eggs in 7 months!” To “no eggs for 2 years!”
I was curious what y’all would say is typical timing for them to start laying (Lord’s Willing!!!) and what on earth they look like. As silly as it sounds, I don’t think I’ve ever even SEEN a goose egg  despite all the clichés surrounding them!
So I’d love to hear y’all’s experience with geese laying, and want to see some pictures! Have a blessed day! Praying for y’all! 😊

What breed do you have?
Large breeds like embden and dewlap Toulouse sexually mature later than light breeds, so you can expect them not to lay until around two years old. Small/ light breed geese become sexually mature at around seven months to one year old which is when you can expect to maybe see some eggs.
Laying can vary in a single breed also and even from year to year with a single individual depending on factors like weather, hormones, nutrition, general health, and sometimes just mood.

My girls have stopped laying for the season and are now starting to molt “I think” sometimes geese can resume laying after they molt but generally they are done for the year once they start shedding.

These are some of this year’s eggs I blew for art projects though.

The top three eggs are from my French Toulouse Friday, she’s not as big as an embden but she lays fairly big eggs, she’s an older girl so her reproductive system is aging resulting in a bit of an unusual shape and some wrinkling in the shell.

The two lower left are more typically sized goose eggs, from my buff X Toulouse Dandelion and her buff mother Apricot. The smaller one directly next to the right is from my Roman x Toulouse Tuesday. It’s not the smallest goose egg I’ve seen but it’s a good example of a small egg. The smaller one to the right is a duck egg, and last is a quail egg. The AA battery is for scale.

Oh wow, that’s exactly the kind of information I was looking for, thank you SO so much!! I just have to take a second and appreciate mood being a factor in their laying 😅 I love it! Even geese have their days I suppose! Those eggs look huge though, that’s so exciting!

Ours are White Chinese… I have no clue where that falls in the large to small geese scale though!

Also, are geese pretty prolific layers? Or should I not egg-spect too many?
