I had to get rid of a cocketiel and 2 parakeets because I couldn't handle the bird dander in the house. So sometimes the chickens get me that way, too. I take a benadryl before I do a lot of handling, like wing clipping or coop cleaning. But ordinary day to day stuff isn't a problem.
A am allergic to cedar, though, and discovered that even pine shavings can choke me up sometimes. I get real wheezy around those. And can break out in a rash if I handle them.
