I should note I would NEVER allow it if I thought there was even a remote 1% chance Brew would bite.

But obviously he is an animal and you never know.

But he is VERY tolerant.

Also he’s often outside during this and we are inside

Kids are nuts. My oldest once tried to ride our pug like a horse. Fortunately he was too fat to turn and land a bite but I couldn’t blame him for trying. Kids have to be taught when it’s ok to do what with a dog and some dogs are good for helping teach those lessons and others are not. My doodle will growl at the kids when she’s had too much and they have had to learn that that means to leave the dog alone. With another dog I didn’t know that wouldn’t be a “learning moment”—it would be over either by removing the dog or the kids. Because it’s my dog and I know she won’t bite it can be a discussion, as can feeding time and throwing the ball, etc. So even though my dog is a dingbat she is very good for teaching my kids how to treat a dog in general. She tolerates more than a lot of other dogs I’ve owned but she has a limit and reacts just enough to let them see what that language looks like should they ever encounter it with another dog.

Awww that’s awesome! She sounds great. I think giving appropriate warnings and using appropriate body language/not overreacting and jumping straight to biting is so important. SO many people are SO quick to correct ANY growl or anything and I used to think that too but now I feel like it’s SO important for communication. Dogs can’t speak human words and say “hey, I’m feeling quite stressed/upset/whatever right now. Please back off.” So they may growl instead. Or even just a lip lift before a growl. There’s usually SO much subtle communication beforehand if you’re actually paying attention. That’s why I never really understood the whole “they just bit out of nowhere” thing because there usually is at least SOME communication but it can be VERY subtle and easily missed by majority of people. BUT!!!!!!!!!!!! I ALSO know that they CAN bite without warning ESPECIALLY IF their warnings (growls or whatever) have always been corrected their entire lives especially harshly. Cause now in their minds, growling is not safe anymore so it becomes “okay, I guess we’ll go straight to a bite now” and that becomes SO dangerous. But it is HARD to change the mindset of not letting them growl for most people. Anyway, sorry, I did NOT mean to ramble or get controversial here LOL

Ohhhhhhhhh okay LOL you must’ve posted right after me and not have seen mine yet which was why I was SO confused LOL because mine was/is all about proper communication and body language and stuff and growls and bites and all that so in my head I’m like… she wants kids to get bit… ???????????? Then I’m like nah, that CANT be LOL I knew there must be another reason which is why I asked you to explain LOL and sure enough, totally different reason
