allergies in chickens

I can not find any inf. on chicken allergies. One on here said he did not use pine because of it. What are the symptoms. Could Sweet PDZ cause it. I got to thinking that I had added that to the coop floor before the sneezing started in my hens. Now they seem well but when I talked to the agr. man he said they would still come by In DEC. to do a check on them.
I sure hope that is it and I won't have to get rid of them. Jean

Aromatic cedar is a big problem for them. Causes respiratory conditions if they inhale the fumes of the oils for too long.

Pine shaving are good to use in the coop. You can buy them buy the bale.

I dunno about in chickens, but with most small animals pine and cedar are bad. cedar being the worst of the too. Only if pine is kiln dried is it safe to use with most animals. It does cause allergies, itchy ness and respiratory problems from breathing in the fumes. (again, i'm not sure about chickens)

Miss Prissey Do you know of anyone who has done their own throat swabs on chickens and sent them in. I was a nurse for 20 years and did lots of people throat swabs.
The agr. guy can not come till the 2nd week of Dec. That is when my young bo's will be 8 weeks old and old enough to try to intergrate into the coop with my two Brahma hens. I want to know before then whether the Brahma hens are carriers of disease. We are preparing a small addition to the reg coop that will someday be with the other part a larger coop for all my girls. On second thought. Humm maybe leave it enclosed and use it for new chicks in the spring would be a better idea. Speckled hen lives within driving distance of me and Is going to hatch me some Delawares and maybe a few blue orps as well.
Oh I have pine shavings in the coop and some sweet pdz for odor and fly control. The coop is 6feet tall and 4x8 on the floor. I only right now have the two hens in there. Thanks again jean

You could call the state Vet office for advise on the swabbing.
