Allergy Shots. Anyone Get Them?

I was wondering if anyone gets allergy shots. I went to the doctor a couple weeks ago for something else not relating to allergies but the doctor wanted me to get tested for allergies. Well, of course, the results came back and I'm allergic to everything (including myself). Now they suggest that I take WEEKLY allergy shots for the next 3 years. I laughed when they told me and told them, "NO, I don't think that's gonna happen".

So I'm wondering if anyone takes allery shots and if so, do you feel a difference? How long have you been taking allergy shots and what are you allergic to?

Don't do it, they did that with my son supposedly he was allergic to everything............ according to the tests, well let me tell you those shots never helped and actually made him sicker, he is also not allergic to any of the things they said he was, like cats he has 2 like dander we have 2 cats 4 dogs, 3 horses and 21 chickens, no signs of allergies, he is also allergic to grass, mold pollen ect ect, that he is around everyday no reaction........... they are idoits or liars, if you need some allergy relief look to what your eating cuz it's probably coming from the franken food monsanto has been feeding us for 20 years, anything premade has MSG or some kind of chemical preservative in it and or is genetically altered in some way.... see a naturalist, or holistic Dr. you'll be much better off. Much Healthier, and have no need to see A quack in your the big pharma pocket doctor, we haven't been sick around here since we switched to naturally grown or organic 10 years ago, and stopped buying into the multi million dollar industry of manipulation. that being the food industry, and the pharmaceutical and drug industry, along with our stupid government.

And the funny thing is that I know that I have a few allergies but I can deal with it. I'm afraid to inject all of the crap in my body.

I have also thought about naturalist/holistic remedies as well. I have been reading up on it. I know that I need to eliminate dairy.

And I have also been thinking about eliminating red meat.

The epi-pen alone was going to cost $200.00, to be applied to my deductible being as though I am not on any meds and have not had anything applied to the deductible yet.

The WEEKLY shots would be a $40.00 co-pay EVERY VISIT, sooooooooooo that would be $160.00 per month, soooooooooo, I would be looking at $1,920 each year for 3 years bringing a grand total of $5,760.00 for 3 years.

Not gonna happen.

Not trying to be smart or anything, but is there a chance that you can overcome what is causing the allergic reactions? When I first got into bees I used to get huge welts when it got stung. Then I had a little bee accident (Well, not accident, I was stupid) and I got stung 8 times, twice right in the face. I was nauseous and miserable and still had the welts. Then, when extracting honey this year the little buggers got into my suit somehow and stung me 8 times. I was a little sick for a day but fine afterwards and anytime after that when I got stung it barely left a welt. Could you get used to such things? Like your body creating antibodies?

I have been taking the allergy shots for a couple of years and I haven't had an asthma attack since I started the shots.

If you want to take allergy treatments, go to an allergy specialist, not your GP. Once a year I have to go in once a week for 3 weeks while they build the dosage back up, but then it is once every three weeks.

If you go to a specialist and get the skin test, you can then easily avoid any foods you are allergic to. But you have to know what they are.

The shot is in a tiny little needle. It's just injected under the skin and not into the muscle. The shot doesn't hurt. I get an itchy spot because I am allergic to alcohol and they prep the shot area with an alcohol rub. The first few months, the shot causes a red welt and it itches. But as you build up your tolerance, the reaction to the shot becomes less and less.

At my specialist, the shots are cheap. It's $11 per visit and my insurance picks up most of it. Still, $11 once every 3 weeks to not have asthma attacks is awfully cheap. It does take time. I have to sit in the office for 20 minutes after the shot to make sure I am not going to have a bad reaction. I don't mind. It seems t be about the only time I can sit quietly and read a book without feeling guilty because I have work to do.

The allergist tried to make me give up my dogs. I told him it wasn't going to happen, so he just increased the dosage on the dog component of my shots.

This is what happened to me. In October, I woke up at 3:00 AM and the room, my bed, my body and EVERYTHING was spinning. I tried to get out of the bed and I couldn't at first. I then felt very nauseous. I finally was able to crawl out of bed and hugged the wall as I stumbled to the bathroom. As soon as I made it to the bathroom I threw up.

The spinning was still there. I crawled back to bed and still spinning. I thought I was going to die. I woke up the next morning and my head was still spinning but not as much. The more I walked around, the less spinning. I felt a little better and was able to drive. Throughout the day, I had spells of the spinning but not like the 3:00 AM episode. So, this happened for 2 weeks until I finally decided to make an appointment to the doctor.

I saw a Family Practice doctor. I don't have a "regular" doctor because I'm NEVER sick. The last time I had a cold was about 20 years ago. I have my annual "female" appointments and that's it. So, while at the doctor's office, the doctor told me that I had fluid in my ear. She prescribed a "motion sickness" med for me and ordered labs. The motion sickness medication worked immediately. All spinning stopped. Well, as it took this doctor another 2 weeks to call me back for lab results, I made an appointment to see an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor (ENT). I researched and I came upon "Vertigo" and I knew that an ENT would be able to help me. Told the ENT my story and he suggested I get tested for allergies. He said that a bad sinus infection could affect my inner ears/ear and have possibly thrown my balance "off" which could have been why I had "spinning spells". So this is where all of the allery shot foolishness came from.

I already know that I'm allergic to a few things and some of the top contenders are perfume and cigarette smoke. I don't wear any perfume or scented deodorant, nor do I use any washing detergent that has perfumes. I don't smoke and I don't place myself around smokers. I have a VERY sensitive nose and if I smell anything like perfume or smoke, I can within seconds feel nausea, get a headache, get scratchy throat, red/water/itchy eyes, sneezing, and inside my nose closes and I'm not able to breath.

If I'm at a red light and the car in front of me has a lit cigarette and is dangling it out of the window, I can smell the smoke (with my windows up - the smoke comes through the vents) and I immediately feel nausea and get a headache and all of the other wonderful things that I get. I can smell a smoker's breath and get a headache. I got it bad!

I'm not sure what to do about inhaling the smells from others besides just trying to avoid them. The things that I can smell are unreal.

Mhm, that is a good point indeed. Not sure what to do about smells. I don’t wear excessive perfume either but don’t worry about smoke too much. Have you had your nose broken once? I broke mine a few times in the martial arts and every once in a while it acts up and then I cannot stand any smells or anything. But then it just goes away again
