Just curious. If anyone here raises alligators, would like to raise alligators, has ever raised alligators, or is just interested, please post here.

I ahve always wanted to have an alligator rescue.. Here there are tons of "pet" alligators turned loose into ponds or rivers and the dnr take them .. i think most are euthanized , but would love to offer them a home.. i dont know why they fascinate me soo much but they always have..

Last I recall, in the state of Florida at least, any nuisance alligator under four feet long is relocated. Over four feet in length and they are considered habituated to a location and are destroyed.
I like alligators, admire them, but don't believe they should be kept as pets.

Oh I agree they shouldnt be pets , just as large cats shouldnt.. Sadly here in Indiana I know only of a few places that are willing to take and care for them .. More oftent hen not they have been put down...

Okay, this is a weird fact about my family. My maternal grandfather was a temporary caretaker for an attraction that kept, among other things, alligators. It was temporary because my grandfather had a severe drinking problem.

Of course, this was either during the fifties or sixties when such attractions were less regulated.

When I was a little kid, my cousin stole hamburger that his mom was going to use for dinner. We then used that hamburger to 'fish' for alligators in the channel behind his home. There were either alligators or crocodiles there(I know there is a difference) but luckily we never caught any. I have no idea what we would have done if we had hooked one on my cousin's tiny fishing pole

Ah...the glory of growing up in the seventies and not being closely watched.

Having visited a gator farm in Nachitoches, LA a few summers ago, I'd have to pass. Those things are crazy!! Watched a feeding frenzy with raw chicken....like watching real life Jaws! They are beautiful but dangerous creatures. I'll keep my distance! Ya'll want to see pics? It was an awesome experience, but I wouldn't keep them as pets or even do a rescue....the guy feeding them was missing a couple fingers...

Better check your state laws. It's illegal to keep alligators (and caimans too I'd be willing to bet) as pets in many states.

They do not make good pets. They cannot be domesticated or tamed and will eventually grow to a considerable size. Ten feet plus are not uncommon here in Florida.

Gator's are best left in the swamps sorry. They are Wild canivore's that can in an instant become out of control. There are actual gator farmer's that raise them for meat and the hide but they should not be considered pet's.You should check your local state regulation's and law's and if you are wanting to raise for meat etc. there are licence etc. you need to a get for that.I think most states have outlawed the sale of pet alligator's so...

True fact. It is illegal to keep gators and crocs in lots of states. In Tennessee where I live you can only have Caimans.
