This happened a few years ago and my chicken became egg-bound so I am a bit freaked out. She is molting. Both are actually but one more severely than the other so I assume it is balder girl. The egg breaks due to thin shell and in addition to a yolk there is a big blob of what looks like tuna fish and on close inspection is shell material. Almost 1 by 2 inches big. She has access to oyster shell and lots of fresh air and space to roam around but I am really worried it will become a health problem. I read about thin shells all the time so I know that is no big deal but I have not seen references to this thick blob of stuff. Second time in two weeks. I did get two good eggs a few days ago so she has laid a regular egg during this molt but otherwise not sure who is laying the occasional normal egg since they are the same breed and their eggs look the same. Both are in low production due to molt.

They eat Layena by Purina and they also run around the back yard. Interesting question about the scratch. I usually only give once in a while, during winter to make the run more interesting I will spread some out. I did have a camera crew here and we used scratch to keep them near the reporter 4 days prior to the last funny egg and they definitely had too much. Related? Can one time OD on chicken cookies mess them up? Can someone clarify for me, internal layers have funny yolk issues right, yolks in poop etc. This is shell inside soft shelled egg. I think its different.
