Thank u...thats what I was thinking when I got him last week. I jusy hope he's as quiet and docile as my other "straight run suprise". Lol. Any opinion on the maran splash that next to him in the 2nd pic? Got together, same age. Looks like pullet in comparison, but also never saw such a young baby with such a developed comb already.

Likely a pullet. It's a pretty normal amount of comb for a pullet that age to have.
It's early, of course, but it definitely looks pullet so far.

That cockerel is so cute.

Thank u. That's comforting...have 2 Splashes with similar combs, so hoping both pullets. Also 2 Splashes have tail feathers already, and little boy is still somewhar of a fuzzball, lacks anything significant.....Is that also a sign for Marans?

Definitely true with Marans, and for the most part many other breeds. Cockerels tend to feather out more slowly, especially their little nubbin tails.

That said, in my experience overall feathering is more telling than tails. I've had a couple Marans pullets that took awhile to get their tails and were pleasant surprises when they went from 'wait and see' to 'yes! pullet!'
