We moved our younger guys out into the coop and they've had a heat lamp at night. Tonight we went out to turn it on, later than usual, and they were all sleeping outside in the run with our 2 seven week old girls. Right now it's still 80* out even though it's 11 o'clock but it's suppose to get down into the 60's. My husband said to leave them but I went ahead and herded them into the coop to the light, I figured if they get warm they will stay out from under it.

Do I still need to 'put' them to bed at night or if they are cold will they figure out to go into the coop? We have a cold front coming in soon and I'm not sure if they are smart enough to go in out of the cold. I thought this group was smarter than the last ones but I'm starting to think maybe they aren't!

When I move mine out to the coop, I leave them locked in for a day or two, so they know where home is. Then I still herd them in at night(after a while they go by themselves.) and close the shed up because of predators.
