Almost 6 week old Ameraucana

Okay thank you everyone! I decided to name "it" or "he" Rocco, But Does anybody know if it's possible to get him neutered? I really can't have chicks until this flock is gone. Any recommendations in the San Fransisco area that could fix him? It would mean a lot, And I have already fallen in love with him so I can't return him. Thanks!

Yes it is - neutered roos are called capones.

However, fertilised eggs won't develop if you don't let your hens incubate them. Just collect them every day and put them in the fridge to eat.

You don't "neuter" birds. You will only have chicks if you let a hen hatch the eggs. That takes her sitting on them continuously for 21 days. If you pick up your eggs every day, you will not get any babies.

Thanks! Is there any difference between the eggs? Also I read that when the Rooster mates with the hen it can hurt them, is it true?

Well that's YOUR opinion, and you are entitled to it.

I was simply answering the OP's question as to whether it's possible to neuter roosters, then they can make up their own mind about it.

No, no difference in taste.

It's true that some roosters are quite forceful with their hens, yet others are gentle.

You won't be able to tell the difference in the eggs unless you know exactly what to look for. On the yolk there is a tiny white dot on an unfertilized egg. On a fertilized egg the dot has a tiny white circle around it. They taste and look exactly the same, otherwise. It's true a young roo CAN hurt a hen when mating her, but it's pretty rare. The mating will look worse than it is at first - don't worry, he will calm down with time and the girls will stop "fighting" it when they are old enough to lay. They will run away from him before then and so when he tries to grab them it might look like he is hurting them. He most likely isn't.

they dont taste different if that is what you mean. The only thing that is different is if you look at the yolk (spelling?) it will have a white bullseye on it, but if you werentlooking for it you would never see it. And it is always possible but I have never had that happen, but geting him netured wont stop him from trying to mate.

No need to get snippy. I stated in my post that it was MY opinion.
