Hi all,
In response to the new member questions:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, my husband and I are new to chickens. We don't have them yet, but are almost finished building our chicken tractor.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We are hoping to have 3.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We'll see. We want something friendly and reliable, and interesting colored eggs (very dark brown, green, etc) would be a plus.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Searching online.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I am an avid gardener, cook, hiker, traveler, reader, potter (ceramics!), and all sorts of other interests. I keep a blog about food (growing, eating, and cooking) at http://athinkingstomach.blogspot.com.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm a high school English teacher and my husband is an engineer and inventor. We live on a quarter acre in the gorgeous hill community of Altadena. Here we're working on turning the house we bought this fall into a minifarm. We've got two house-cats and a huge population of wild birds (parrots, CA quail, doves, hummingbirds) that live on our property. Though the wild birds aren't our pets, they provide plenty of entertainment.
I'm looking forward to learning from this remarkable online community.
