My docile group of 8 pullets, were nearly attacked by a hawk today. If it wouldn't have been for the "chicken tractor" and being all fenced in, one would be missing. The chickens were so stressed out by the encounter, we put them back in their pen, they bolted for their coop and they've been there since 3:00 this afternoon (5 hours ago). Not a peep. Anyone have this happen before?? Scared them to bits I guess!! When the hawk was stabbing his beak into the tractor, they were freaking out, flying about.
On another note, when we went to put them back, I noticed that 3 of the 8 have missing/bloody combs... I have never seen any pecking before, or evidence of it, could it have been from the stress??
