Almost bought some ducklings

I’m glad someone has more restraint than me! I was actually trying to hatch ducklings, but that didn’t work out. A friend was at TSC buying stuff for his small yard in the city, and texted me a pic of the ducklings. I drive up there to NH last week, as our tsc only has chickens.
Of course I went “just to look” and almost didn’t buy them because I didn’t really want more pekins. I ended up with 2. They love us! I spend lots of time with them thanks to Covid, they’ve really been great in this lousy time.
our TSC would only sell 6 at a time. I only wanted 3. down to 5 after an unfortunate incident, and just ordered 4 more.... its a sickness it seems, and more contagious than Covid.

They are so cute I'll probably take the leap next spring. Right now my yard isn't quite setup for it I have plenty of grass for them to eat but I have no fence yet and the neighborhood dogs sometimes are out and about. I feel bad that my chickens can't free range right now either. More motivation to get my property properly fenced.

Duck feet are the cutest
The Pekin Runner has huge feet. The pictures do not do them justice. watching The two that hatched makes me feel good. Then it’s time to go back to the ‘bator where two have quit and the other three are mal positioned and shrink wrapping fast. To many veins to help them just yet but and I don’t think they will make it

Rouen was hatched around midnight and the Pekin hatched after noon. Rouen was being real mean when I got home. We have one dead egg, one maybe dead, three still peeping 24 hours after external pip. To help or not to help? Magnolia Ducks always seems to have to help when she hatches our eggs
Or she's not patient enough. It's only the pekin eggs I have to help, the others seem to pop right out.

I should start a new thread and call it "Praise the Lord and pass the Ammunition" Not only is Hershey recovered from snakebite, but , I had to help three hatch during the night and all are doing well this morning. I think I went to be about 4 expecting all three to be dead under the heat cave when I got up but that is not what happened. One Pekin Runner has blood on her back but is doing well. What a night.

1 normal hatch, 1 wife assisted and 3 that I assisted. 5 of 7. I opened the dead pipped one and did not learn anything. Unlike the three I helped it was positioned right, right end of the egg, everything. The other I did not bother to open.
