Almost Finished "Chick Inn"

Thanks, I have 25 at the moment, and have 9 eggs in the bator. First time incubating so I am testing it out with some "mutt" eggs my neighbor gave me. The coop was pretty easy to build and if you have any other questions about it, feel free to ask........

Thank you so much Eric! I just might be messaging you with questions.

Actually, I'll start that now.

Is there anything you have noticed yet that you would have changed? Do you like the single angle roof? I can't decide if I will drop from 8 feet in front to 6 in the back or 8 feet to 7. What would you suggest? Sorry - I hope that wasn't too many questions! Thanks in advance!

I used to live in Michigan up off of Tawas Bay. Does that count for anything? I miss having 4 seasons and I really miss the national forrests that were everywhere. Are you going to add a run or just let them free range? That is a really nice coop and such a good size. Trudy

I dropped from 8' to around 5' 8". I was originally going to drop further down in the back as I read that for using shingles, you must have more than 3/12 pitch. I ended up sticking with the 3/12 pitch and overlapped the shingles a little more. I'm glad I did, I can walk anywhere inside the coop and not have to worry about hitting my head on a rafter. I used 2x4's for the rafters as the wind blows so much around here, the snow doesn't have a chance to pile up anywhere..... Honestly, I can't think of anything I would change right now, but after this weekend and finishing up the inside, siding it, putting in their mini door, and a handle of other things, I will probably have more input on that. I'll let you know...

I love Tawas. We like to go camping up there. Such a nice quiet town on the bay. Being an original "West-sider" it reminds me of that side of the state. I am putting a fence up but am planning on letting them go where they please. The fence is mainly for the area dogs and my little mini daschund who I don't know if I can trust around them yet.......

Love the coop. It will give them a lot of room.

Are you going to hang their waterer and feeder or place them up on something?

I am debating which way I want to go in my coop to keep them from scratching shavings in everything.

Yes, I am definitely hanging them up. I wanted to hang both above the poop box (not completed in the picture) but they haven't learned how to get up there yet. Maybe it's a little too high for them. As soon as they start roosting up there, I will hang both the feed and the water from the rafters. I am already getting tired of digging shavings out of the water..........
