We have 7 pullets who are 19 weeks old that we got around March 1st from Tractor Supply. Some combs and wattles are getting red and at least one has started squatting to us. So I'm anxious and eager to see some eggs! 2 are EEs and I am curious what color eggs they lay. Sure hope they're blue or green.
The Buff Orpington hen we added to them is about 3 years old and slow to lay (egg every other day or every 3 days normally) but she's stopped since we brought her home. Hope she picks back up soon.
We also have 3 Red Sex-Links...
And 2 Speckled Sussex (which you can tell by the one's picture she's a favorite. lol)
We also acquired 8 new hens between 1-3 years of age. A friend contacted me wanting to sell them cheap in order to save them from being predator food. She started with 30 and since they free range with no run, had lost all but 8. So I bought them from her and we get 3-5 eggs a day from them right now. 4 RIRs (who are a lot smaller than the rest so they must be the 1 year olds), 2 Buffs, 1 Barred Rock and 1 black hen she said was an Australorp but she has a leg band and is HUGE so I wonder if she's not a cross of some sort or a Jersey Giant. She doesn't have yellow feet though. She's my favorite of course but they're all pretty sweet except the Barred Rock. I had hoped we might be able to combine both groups but that's not looking likely. The RIRs would mix well with the young girls, but the older hens won't. So I temporarily have half the run penned off for these girls and the pullets have the other half. That's until I can move my junior bucks out of one section of the barn, that will be turned into a coop and run for these girls. It's 8x20. I sure love having chickens again. I can't believe we went without them as long as we did.
