Almost there🄰🐣

Yes the state and local laws say it’s ok, now the deed restriction will follow as well. I did put a top limit on the number to get it to pass for the neighborhood and also for the Max size of the enclosure based on that top limit. No roosters...had to keep it quieter for the neighborhood. I’m pretty happy with the result, and it was overwhelmingly positive! The attorney for the community now will take the petition and file it and amend the deed restriction. So we are able to move forward and build our coopšŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ„°

Thats great! Stay with BYC - you will be a positive inspiration to those who come after you looking to do the same thing!

Have you picked out what kinds of chickens you want yet?

Looking forward to your Coop and Flock pics! How many chickens can you have?
Thank you! I sure will! It’s because I found this community that I decided to take it on. I’m happy to share my info with anyone! So my daughter is in the animal science program at her school, and the FFA. When I went to her teachers farm to pick up my meat for the month, he was like hey, the hens she was raising at the school program are about to start laying if she would like some of her hens back! They got the eggs from the embryology program at the local college. So all the breeds are great for our climate: barred rocks, leghorn, sexlinks,...so we shall see when we go back to the farm to tell him we got it! We have the upper limit of 6 which I was ok with to get it passed. That also allows me to have a roomy coop and run. Love this website!! šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ“šŸ‘šŸ¼

I'd love to hear more about how you convinced all of your neighbors to sign the petition. I'm about to present at our next homeowner association meeting in July, and we have 183 homes and I need get 75% to agree to change our CC&Rs which currently prohibit poultry although it is legal in our city. That's 137 signatures, at least. It seems so out of reach to me, especially with COVID.

What was your elevator pitch to help people get as excited as you about chickens? :)
Did you have to address any negative nay-sayers, and how did you win them over?
Any tips or advice? :)

I'm SO inspired by your story - congrats on all your hard work paying off & being able to get your chickens! :)

HI! Oh my I'm happy to share anything that can help you! I had to get a 2/3 majority of our 226 homes...and I will tell you it was overwhelmingly positive! Many people loved the idea and wished they could do it too (but since our state law says you must have 1 acre of land, not al of my neighbors would qualify unless the state law changes). I actually submitted a report to our HOA first, which brought up and addressed up front as many objections that I could think of...I wanted to dress them right out of the gate. If you're up for messaging me your email I'm happy to send the report to you!
As far as covid, it was actually ok, because everyone was working from home! I brought a mask with me and hand sanitizer if they used my pen. I also kept my distance to be safe. You can do it!!!
My email is [email protected]
I can also send along the language we used for my petition. I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised at how people will react to it! I'll be cheering you on! Email me and I'll do all that I can to help! :)
