Almost Time to Lay - Switch Feed?

My girls are 17 weeks Monday. When do I switch to Layer Ration? Is it medicated? The girls are on medicated starter, still. If they lay their first egg on this feed, is it safe to eat? Thanks for the help!

You can eat the eggs if they are still eating starter, but at that age, you could, if you are out of starter, buy a bag of layer. I usually wait till I see the first egg before feeding layer, however, lately with my mixed group, they get layer a tad earilier than they used to. Layer is never medicated.
