Hi everyone! My girls, my husband and I are living in Hawi, Hawaii. Maybe a few of you might recognize where that is, but it's a small town on the northern tip of the Big Island. A few month's ago my husband and I finally became the proud parents of chickens! We currently have 3 adult laying hens named Betty (Jersey giant), Red (Rhode Island Red) and Spot (Barred Rock), 5 chicks (Auricanas) that are about 10 weeks old, and 5 ducks. It's our first time raising chickens so we have a lot to learn! So I'm open to helpful input and will probably be asking a lot of questions. But we've found great joy in raising our new birds and are striving to create a life for ourselves that is more self sufficient and rewarding. By raising our own layers and also meat birds, we are feeling more connected and deserving of the meat we eat. I look forward to meeting all of you!

Mahalo!

Mahalo!

So glad you found us.

Be sure to post some pics of your birds. We'd love to see them.

Also have you thought about getting some stock from Maui where they have the feral chickens?

Hi Bonzii7, welcome to backyardchickens. Yea ducks! What kind do you have? Are they for meat, eggs, slug control or just fun? My family loves duck eggs.
