Hi Jennifer! I have a similar story to yours-I have been trying to talk my husband into raising chickens for five years now-we go thru a dozen eggs in two days most times!! My two year old LOVES her eggies and would eat them breakfast lunch and dinner if I let her! Actually sometimes I do cause I'm lazy. Haha anyway, where in Kona are you? We live up mauka and love it. Right now we've got four Easter eggers, two Polish, two barred rock baby chicks, one silver laced wyandotte baby chick and one golden laced wyandotte baby chick. Oh and a Cornish x meat bird baby chick! 15 more Cornish x coming in a few weeks too!

What kind if coop set up do you have? What is your yard like? All of my birds (besides my meat birds) were chosen because of not only thier egg production but bc of thier personality as well. I have also heard buff Orpingtons are super docile but really wanted more EEs bc of the colored eggs. I know my daughter will get a kick outta them! My polish are silly and were selected simply bc they are so goofy looking. The skies the limit! I'm so excited for you! It will be great for your keiki

We live in Holualoa on the north side close to K. Komo store. You up my side or kealakekua? Two questions. Where did you get a coop and chickens from? I haven't seen much here sadly. My toddler is also an egg addict lol as are my teens!!

Oh well. We are south of the water station. My husband built our coop-something I do NOT recommend bc of cost. It came out to be almost $700 and it's nothing fancy. I ordered chicks from Meyers bc of the low minimum (5 chicks) for this time of year. I think it goes up in November to 15. So far I'm really happy with them. I just placed an order for 15 meat birds from Murray McMurray-thier minimum right now is 15. Too bad I didn't talk to you then, coulda combined an order!

I just saw a really nice coop on amazon-if you're looking for four only that might be a great option!

They were all A ok! They are lively, healthy and active. Except for my one meat kitchen. She's lazy. Super lazy.
