Aloof chicken

Since she loves eating cucumbers, I doubt her gizzard is impacted. Try adding water to her crumbles to make a wet mash for her to eat, sometimes it works.
If she still doesnt eat, you're going to have to tube feed her.
Here is a long thread that you should consider reading all the way through regarding tube feeding (with pics.)
Personally, I've never tube fed a bird.

Thank you for the information. I watched the flock pretty close this morning for about two hours while I was cleaning their run and I noticed the leader is food guarding. I separated her and the weak one went over and ate and drank. I need to figure out how to separate them so she feels safe to eat and drink. She is a speckled sussex. I have 3 of them and the leader runs all three off but for some reason she picks on one the most.

Put out a second feeder, the leader cant be at two places at once. I've done it and it works.

She's anemic. Feed a higher protein content. 20% if you can get it. I feed my birds morning and night and watch them. They do have free food in the run for day time but I want to make sure every one is eating. You could try NutriDrench. it's a vitamin. You can get it at TSC or other feed store. Try some tuna or cat food. Although my birds won't eat mushy food. They don't need to they get good sources of protein. Mealworms are hight protein but the problem with them is they can get expensive and they don't have all the other nutrition regular feed has. And if you aren't careful they won't eat anything else. I'd put out extra feed stations also as other have said. But you might have to feed her separately to get some weight back on her. Can't remember if she's been wormed? If not do so as worms can contribute to anemia. Good luck.

Also get in the habit of checking crops morning and evening. That way you will know that she is eating. Full at night and empty in the morning. I don't even need to touch my birds because I can see they are full.

Hi,
I bought some safeguard goat wormer. How many days should I give it to my chicken? I have 1 treatment and treat again in 8 days, 3 treats and treat again in 8 days, or 5 treatments and give again in 10 days. She is very under weight so I don't want to over dose her. Has anyone ever used this wormer for chickens? Thanks : )

Give it to her 5 days in a row, then you're done.

Hi, I wanted to give everybody an update on my chicken. After giving her safeguard goat wormer for 2 days, I went and bought some VetRx. This stuff is amazing!!! The next day my chicken wasn't puffed out anymore ands was running around with my other chickens chasing treats. If anybody has a sick chicken you may want to try this. I'll never be without it. : )
