Alpha roo died

Hi,my alpha roo of the flock is on the verge of his death,we have 2 roos and one will be left.the other roo has started acting weirdly after seeing the downfall of the alpha roo.he is becoming so protective of the flock,he puffs up on every small danger and is showing the hens the nest boxes,standing guard and doing so many other wierd stuff he never used to do.is this normal and will he be a good alpha roo

while Alpha was alive, your other roo had to stifle his rooster qualities or be attacked by no. 1. Now that he has moved up to alpha he isn't being weird, he is taking his place at the top. Give him a chance to fit in and settle down - this is new to him and he may have some rough edges at first.

I concur with drumstick....the second in command roo is just learning that he is top dog now and is learning the ropes.
