Hello!

~8 weeks ago I bought what was supposed to be a Cream Legbar chick (female, since they are auto sexing) but as this bird has grown out I am starting to have my doubts. The farm I bought this bird from also breeds Alsteirers. I'm starting to think that's what I have instead. What does everything think? Also, I'm leaning towards rooster because of the prominent comb and wattles. But am not familiar with this breed at all, and don't know what's considered normal for this age (~8-10wks).

Thanks for your help!

It is not a Cream Legbar and is definitely a cockerel. He does look quite a like an Alsterier, so he could very well be one

I agree.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm bummed he's a roo though (we aren't allowed to have them in my town) -- Cockerels typically go in the freezer at my house, but seems a shame to do so with such a rare breed. Perhaps I should try and sell him?

I would, although I'm not sure if he could be used for breeding purposes because I don't believe droopy combs are in the standard, but I'm sure there would be someone wanting a very rare rooster for a pet :)

If you paid for a cream Legbar pullet, call the breeder. Have them exchange him or at least give you what you paid for. There's really no excuse for a mix-up like that, and if I made a similar mistake as a seller I'd be mortified and want to fix it.
