alternatives to declawing cat?

Soft Paws also come in pink! They worked great for my two cats.

Double-sided sticky tape also helps. You can get it in the carpet departments of stores. It won't hurt furniture or walls. It looks tacky but if you put it up & put up with it for a couple of weeks, it will discourage your cat from scratching. Also get a really nice large scratching post (we built ours so it was plenty tall enough for our cat to reach her full height) & rub catnip into it really thoroughly, or even use a catnip spray, and nail a toy on top to encourage the cat to use it. This worked w/our inside cats.

Lots of great info on here. I've had cats all my adult life and never had one declawed. Yes, there has been some damage, but nothing too severe, and I'm not a fan of fancy furniture anyway. Had to refinish a door frame once, which stopped the cat scratching it, and have one small dresser that's scratched up.

To those fond of declawing, I rather expect it will become harder and harder to find a vet who will do it. Mine won't dock tails, I've heard him say. Will have to ask whether he declaws.

That's what Sticky Paws is - double sided tape strips, in an easy to use form.

I now have some on Kitty's favorite door frame. I was trying to avoid putting it there because it's the door the dogs usually go out and it will be covered in dog hair in no time.

if you have to get your cat declawed, go to a vet that uses a laser to declaw, i've seen cats run around after their surgery with no problems, it kills the nerves so a lot less pain, i was a vet tech also and have seen the old way, the crunch does make you cringe!
