Ijust got a new batch of chicks from Coastal (supposedly all girls) they are 1 wekk old. One of the Califorina Greys is always standing, as if watching over the rest of the flock. Do roos start this behavior as early as a week old? Please say it ain't so. I can't have roos and the last batch (home hatched) broke my heart to have to rehome. So I got these that are already supposed to be sexed.
Any encouragement out there?

When they sex them there is a 90% chance of them being correct with pullets.

So, yes I have often identified roos that early via behavior when I see it. But to hear about a behavior is different: I would never tell you that it is a roo.

I would not attribute this behavior to the chick being a roo. It is just too early to tell. Wait a couple of weeks and post a pic, other BYCers will give you their best guesses.
