Am I a boy???

I can't believe you got those at a feed store! They are so beautiful, even if they are roos. I would be disappointed too, thinking they should have been pullets, but what a great excuse to get more! I think it all worked out for the best

I'd have to say roo's also. I had two Silver Laced Wyandottes that I gave away because I don't want any roos at this point in time, I have enough hens and pullets to deal with at the moment. LOL!

Anyway, here's some pics of them when they were 9 weeks old.

And here's a pic of them about two or three weeks ago. Yes, I still keep in touch with the wonderful woman that took them, and she was kind enough to send me pics.

They will be 16 weeks tomorrow. So i'm not sure what they look like now. But the female that I have left, looks nothing at all like them, she is just starting to turn red around her eyes, comb, and wattles, and her comb is still on the small side. They are beautiful boys though. They sure would make me think twice about having a rooster. LOL!

Those are some beautiful roosters Hezz!!! And yes Aeropennchick, mine came from a feed store. They get their stock from a hatchery in Idaho (I found that out when I called to complain about all of the roos in my bunch lol). I am already on the hunt for some more BLRW, although now that everyone is out in the coop/run, I really don't want to start all over with day olds and the brooder. I'm thinking I may end up keeping Lily (although she, I mean HE, now needs a much manlier name).

PS- I love seeing pictures of everyones babies!!!

You should change his name from Lily to Lyle, I had to change my buttercups name from Lillith to Leroy!

I am confused. My BLRW 7-8 week old chicks all have combs and wattles! They don't have feathering like that though. ???? They all have a good amount of lacing. Is the shape of the comb a good indicator to sex the chicks? For Example....

PULLET?

Straight looking comb comb is just straight

ROOSTER?

"Shield" looking comb. comb is narrow then wide then narrow again

Here is my SLW @ 8 weeks old. She was red in the face young, but the wattles were very tiny. I think your second one is 100% boy. First one, I'm going with pullet. It just looks very girly to me.

aoxa,

That is what my girl still looks like, and she's 16 weeks old today. She does have bigger wattles though and she's a bit more red in the face, but she is 8 weeks older than your girl. I'll have to get a recent pic of her now that she's grown a bit.

gg706, I would have to agree with aoxa. Your top pic is a pullet, and your bottom pic is definitely a roo. You can see the difference in the size of the wattles too.
