I just picked these chickens up, they were hen hatched so not clear on the age thinking around 12 weeks. Now that I have them home and had a chance to fully inspect them my thoughts are I got 4 roos. Anyone have a good eye to identify these orpingtons?

A lot depends on age, but judging from their size, I think they are still young. Probably under 12 weeks. If that's the case, then I think you're right and they are all males.

If they really are 12 weeks old or younger, I believe you have 4 cockerels. Their combs are pretty red and large. I will say their legs don't look as thick as the males typically do.

It's possible they're older than you think and they're females close to a point of lay but I'm leaning toward young cockerels.

I'm thinking you are all right. So upsetting. There is one that the waddle and comb are much smaller and keep going from pale to red. I can't remember from pervious roosters if that's normal or not. So I'll wait for her. Thank you all for your input.

My pullets' combs would get redder when they were excited and then back to pale pink so it's not uncommon for a slight color change. I hope I'm wrong and you don't have 4 boys. That would be a bummer!

What's frustrating was the signs were there that they were selling me roosters but I didn't really think about it until I got home. My own fault. Just have to do better with my id'ing.
