Am I a girl??

He is so pretty! Some roosters don't crow. Most do but some don't. Do you have any other roos? Sometimes they won't crow unless they have someone else who is crowing and they have someone to compete with.

I have 2 Roosters. The Alpha crows, and crows, and crows, struts, etc (he'll crow in the middle of the night). The other isn't even a Beta, he is rather feminine, comparatively, and does not crow. I am considering removing the Alpha as he's getting too cocky with my other animals and playing out the 2nd rooster and seeing what he does. Perhaps removing the over-bearing rooster will just give the 2nd one a chance to step up his game?

I have a 8 month barred cochin cockerel that hadn't crowed until Monday. I went out and started crowing at my alpha rooster just because it is so fun to watch him out crow me. After a few a few call back and forth a horrible screech that I guess could be deemed a crow erupted from the cockerel

. I almost died laughing at him. I am currently getting the cold wing

. I wholly suggest crowing with him to encourage him to crow. But if he's not ready you will just end up looking like a fool

Crowing with and/or at them is hilarious!!! I don't know whether it's the short days of winter or not but my henhouse has become a rather quiet place these days after some of my fall UR-Urrrrrr!!!!! sessions. Mind you there are 2 original roosters (#1 and #2) and 2 new (silent) roosters plus a cockerel or two in there along with 16 layers and ~30 teenage pullets.

Roosters #1 and #2 crow a time or two when they wake up and then a couple of times when they get let out of the henhouse. Other than that it's almost like a library around here right now.

I expect things will get noiser when the days get longer in February.
