Am I a hypocrite that I treat my chickens as loving pets but I eat chicken from Popeye's or KFC?

some chickens were raised as pets and some were raised as food. it's ok to eat a food chicken but you cant eat pet chickens. you can turn a food chicken into a pet chicken by rescuing it but you can never turn a pet chicken into a food chicken unless its the apocalypse and even then i dont think i could.
Sure you can.

Yes I do own those but its because they are not meat breeds. They were bred as pets and for egg laying and it would just be wrong to kill them. There is no point in eating them anyway since they are skinny and have pretty much no meat on them.
Oh, okay, gotcha!

well, even skinny birds still make a good soup.
Having said that, I think my girls will end up nourishing the garden once their time comes.
(as an apropos, in the not-so-distant past a large chicken was 3 pounds. those 7 pound monsters are a new development)

Dry white meat.
Yes! This is why I will never own cornish x, and why I don't order anything with chicken when I go out (or order takeout) unless it's wings or fried drumsticks from a fast food joint, where I can see what cut they're serving me. Because everything else chicken is white meat. I don't understand this country's obsession with white meat, it's the worst part of the bird. You have to try really hard to make it good, and most people (or restaurants) just can't pull it off. And it's not worth the extra effort. I really wish we could GMO some chickens with 10 legs each! :drool

Many people eat Silkies because the black meat is "exotic". Any of those breeds you listed previously can make a meal if prepared the right way. Might not have been the original purpose they were bred for but it doesn't make it wrong. They're only pets if the person keeping them says they are.
