Hi, i was wondering if hens views us humans as their rooster? I have a hen whom iev noticed while I was just going to check up on them say hi after work and the hen squats into the mating position wings apart towards me!? first I thought she was ducking something or got spooked but today it was so obvious what she was doing, which lead me to this thought.

Has anyone else had this experience? What causes this behaviour ? She was raised together with other hens and they don't seem to do this towards me. They do have a rooster with them too

Yes, this is normal if you don't have an actual rooster. They view you as their protector and flock leader.

Side note... How old are your girls? If your just now noticing this with pullets close to POL (point of lay), it's a good indicator they will start laying within the next few weeks. Bright red combs is another indicator.

I don't really know how old this flock is tbh. It was given to me by someone recently and from what I know they haven't had much interaction with people they were living in really bad conditions in cages. They did have mites and other stuff going on and iev been treating them.
And this hen was bullied and I have been paying extra attention to her could that lead to this?
And they laid their first egg yesterday while with me.

Could you post a pic of them? I'm no expert on guessing ages but can try and others more experienced can chime in also to possibly at least give you a rough guess.
The bad living arrangements they were living in could throw off the age guesses also here with deteriorated health, tho.

Your a hero for taking them in and caring for them to give them a better life, good on you. 👍

Very possible... It's hit or miss if a soon to be layer with squat for us when there's a rooster present. But she could be liking you being her rooster for the moment.
Watch that boy to see how he's treating his girls. Don't allow excessive abuse or aggression.

That's awesome, I still get giddy over first eggs and I've got 30 birds...❤️ Do you know what breeds they are?

Yes I can post some more photos tomorrow I don't have any pictures on me except for I think 2 hens they're in a video I made I'll add them in. This was made after being with me for 8 days.

No ofc i wouldn't allow that but he's a nice rooster he's not aggressive with them at all. Not all the hens has accepted him before but they've all come around now.

Their breed is Turkish hint. Every hen has laid an egg I'm making this reply in the evening and I collected 4 eggs from the 4 hens. I will post more tomorrow you'll see what they look like now the darker hen is stunning with her feathers and tail back.

Edit: this is the hen I found a recent photo of her
