Am I allowed chickens here in Maple Ridge BC?

Yes and No. You have to be on an acre or more and have the correct zoning to be able to have chickens. Friends the next block over on a half acre same zoning had a complaint (rooster) and had to remove their chickens because they were under the one acre lot size but they had had hens for year without any complaints.

The News just had an article (June 24th) that Pitt Meadows did a trial of allowing backyard chickens, witch didn't go over so well. Pitt Meadows knew of 4 coops and had 13 complaints in one year. The city of Vancouver has had 165 coops registered and only 15 complaints over 4 years. Something seem off with the comparison. I know in Vancouver you are allowed only 4 hens and they are to be a minimum of 4 months old so there should be no confusion between pullet or cockerel and guide lines on coop size. Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows have larger lots(? approx 6,000 sq ft) than Vancouver, Vancouver's standard lot size is only 4,026 sq ft a 33' x 122' lot. I don't think the comparison was equal, something must have been different but the article didn't mention any of the rules that Pitt Meadows coop owners had to follow. Maple Ridge will most likely follow Pitt Meadows ruling.
