Am I crazy to want to try again? Not so great first hatch...

Incubation is all about trial and error. Keep reading the posts in the forum on hatching. Eventually you will enjoy successful hatches. PM is you need any more advice

My advice DON'T open them...if you must know something before getting rid of them then just candle them.

Don't give up! my first hatch - two incubators plus turners ($$) and 84 eggs I got 8 chicks, but this time these are going better, a few little adjustments and I have little chickens everywhere! You don't live near Portland Tn do you LOL.

I'm overrun now. Stick with it and you will be too.
Good Luck!

Keep tryin - read this forum to see what other breeders are doing to ensure a successful hatch

Thanks for all of the encouragement! I actually live near Seattle, not at all near Tn

I ended up picking up 2 more silkie chicks from the feed store. They are a little older then mine, but are doing fine together (I did take out the newest and a buddy, she can't cruise around on her feet yet). My sister REALLY wants to do some button quail next...

Keep trying. I just finished a hatch of my own girl's eggs. My turkeys didn't hatch, but were fully developed. Out of 10 chicken eggs 6 hatched. I already have 12 turkey eggs and 12 chicken eggs in the bator again. I'm pretty sure I know what happened to the turkey eggs. They went in one day before the chickens and my hatcher even though it was set and ready for two days had a huge temp spike and then drastic temp drop for the first few hours. Still not sure why that happened, but it is not going to stop me.

My first hatch failed, out of 12 eggs, 6 were clear, 2 developed blood rings early on, one died at about 10 days (I think) very small chicken inside and the last 2 didn't pip, I gave up at 25 days.
My 2nd hatch, hatched on Monday/Tuesday this week and out of 22 eggs I ended up with 6 chicks. I candled lots because I was worried about something going wrong, of the remaining eggs most were clear and 3 quit.
I put 6 wyandotte eggs in the bator last night for my 3rd hatch, I'm hooked and my chicks have grown so much already it's amazing. Don't give up!

Thank you all for sharing your stories. I am VERY happy with the 5 chicks that hatched! I also bought 2 black chicks at the feed store, but they aren't nearly as nice of a quality as the chicks I hatched myself! Here are a few pictures of my chicks!
