Am I doing something Wrong??

the dark ones look like black sex links to me. mine have that coloring, but are only 2 months old. people told me after they get older the will lose most of the gold/brown feathers.

They are lovely hens... And if you started getting eggs one a day it is likely two hens started laying. From my experience a hen will first lay about every other day. Then as they mature they lay more frequently. We had a wyandotte that got spooked about laying in the coop because one of the cats would hunt moles in the run. For almost a week she didn't lay any eggs. WELL SHE DID but what we didn't know was she found this very quiet place under the deck, WAAAAY BACK and laid them there. When my wife found her in that spot we found 7 eggs there too... LOL

ALSO, as the days get warmer and there is more sun hours in the day they are prone to laying more frequently.

So hunt around, your girls may be laying eggs all over the place...

It looks like you have both red and black sex links...wonderful layers!!! They are definitely about 4 months old judging by the comb size; I have both types gotten at different times. Once they start laying, they lay almost daily. I love mine as I am it it for the eggs!

You don't mention if you have a roost setup for nite time. I wonder if that what the Old Lady was trying to convey to you, that "the box" was not for sleeping in.

Anyway, enjoy your beautiful hens and all the eggs that are to follow!
