They are all layers. I usually keep the scratch out for them and they don't eat it as much when I am letting them free range.

This is just my opinion but, I feel that these big feed company's spend millions to figure out a balanced diet for our animals. Not to say you can't give them a treat or subsidize their diet. I free rang mine give them treats and scraps along with what I believe is a quality feed.I have seven hens and one roster, I've been feeding them just plane chicken scratch from Southern States. But recently I read that sunflower seed are a good source of protein for them, so I started adding some to the scratch I feed them. They also get let out of their run every other day to eat bugs and plants.
Is this a good diet for them? Or should I consider adding some more to their diet?![]()
