So I have a small hen that has been showing signs of going broody.. Saturday she decided it was time.
I all weekend and today my other hens have insisted on laying in her nest :(.. I decided to move her into my over sized brooder and that went great...
However she had 36 eggs!!! So I only left her 12 and took the other 18 straight to my bator that I just set up last night hoping to hatch my guinea eggs...I figure for a first run I might as well use these..
Could she really have hatched 36 eggs?? Did I do right moving her? For the ones in the bator do I start my count from today or from Saturday???

400

I let them sit where they want and mark the eggs they can keep- 36 eggs looks cute for her to sit on but I would not advise it. reg hen i say 12 eggs I say 9 for bantam but do as I say not as I do. I have a bantam on 17 currently due on diff dates, I will remove chicks as they hatch so she will keep sitting.

Well I changed my mind :(.. Since she is siting well and just started I took the chicken eggs to the incubator and gave her my guinea eggs. Since I have read hens do a better job than an incubator and it's my first bator hatch I would rather mess up my chicken eggs than my guinea eggs since I only have 1 female guinea ( I have 1 male)..
Does this sound like a good plan?? I have 17 guinea eggs and she is not interested in setting...

She started showing signs over a week ago but didn't stay but she would be pissy when she layed then Friday she went on the nest and only comes down to eat :) once a day since..
So I think she is determined :) pretty good for a small $6 young hen

Oh and my husband can fit long ways laying down in my brooder or sitting.. It's made from 4 doors that each had a hard wire screen window

36 is a bit much for a small hen to hatch. A very broody hen will typically hatch whatever eggs are put under her- good luck in your hatching :)
