Am I meant to keep them in the pen for the first week

Hi everyone,
I hope someone can help me out on this one.
I got my 6 hens only 4 days ago. Someone told me that I should keep them in their pen for the first week to teach them that this is where they are too lay, and to get used to e new home.
So far we have kept them in the pen but it seems like they are really eager to get out and roam the yard.
What should I do?

They need to know that's home...let them out an hour before sundown...they won't get to far from the coop and you'll know if they go in at dark.....~Charm
