Am i nuts to order 6 roos?

they are all prod rir

i want to cull for the two best behaved out of the six. but the crowing jamboree in the meantime is a concern.

i would like to breed from the prod rir i am getting from ideal to have a self sustaining laying flock.

i am getting--together with the roos--10 prod rir pullets, 6 golden sex links, and three b o pullets (hopefully as future broodies)

maybe i should just get two roos and keep what i am stuck with.

???

ETA: i was gonna use the extra roos for meat, but i guess a hatchery roo may be more work than meat in the processing area.

If you're looking for broodies, I would go with cochins over buff orps. Hatchery lines of the BO probably are about as broody as the production reds.....

In my area, esp in the late summer/early fall, Craigslist is full of roosters for free. Many RIR/red types. Personally, I'd not order a roo, or maybe one, and pick up a free one later in the year. Someone else has fed it and you can have an idea of the temperment.

Oh a lot of times on CL their not adults... Most of the time its the less experienced chicken folk that bought some chicks at the farm store or TSC, and or a broody hatch, and they realized they have some roos. So generally they go on CL then. At least that's what I find around here.
