A racoon or possum or dog can bite through the chicken wire that starts half way up. I would reinforce it with hardware cloth, chain link or something heavier...especially since they are going to be alone for long periods of time...
or, better yet, run a hot wire around the outside of the pen and make sure it is turned on when no one is around and at night.
