homechick you should check freecycle,craigslist or even ebay for dog housed. I just checked all three in my area and they all had large dog houses for very little money(or free in freecycle) Something like this would work well for a small number of chickens especially if you make it into a tractor.

If you set the search filter to your area on ebay you can find a local seller andyou can pick it up yourself.
