Am I the only one disgusted by "Black Friday"?

I was very sad to read about the man people stepped over in Target while he was having a heart attack. How shameful of people to not stop and ask," Are you ok?Do you need help?" He died and the people who ignored him are probably just as good at justifying their behavior as they were at ignoring him.

I went out to look for my phone on BF and it was horrid with the crowds,driving,and attitudes in the stores. I felt very sad for the employees at all the stores I visited. Do they get paid more to work this day(s)? They should.

Ah now I get it. I've heard the term of being 'in the red'. Never "in the black" though. Thanks for explaining that.

I'd hate to see someone who interpreted a 'black day' as a positive thing coming to australia and getting excited about one coming up without knowing the meaning of it here!

No you're not the only one, I hate black friday! There's nothing I need that bad that is worth fighting all the ignorant, greedy people. Not to mention I hate being played by the stores. I hated working it too, thank goodness the area I worked wasn't as affected by it, but it seems to be a day that brings out the "crazies" in full force!

I think what's making me more upset about it, is how the stores are encroaching more and more on Thanksgiving day. Opening the stores at 6 or even 8 am the day after can, and then staging sales at certain times during the day, can get the same results as opening at midnight. It may be more controllable for them and less of a safety risk to their employees. Heck if it were better managed, it may bring in more custmers.

I won't even recognize the christmas season until AFTER Thanksgiving is over.

I purposly don't go anywhere or spend any money on black friday. (same with day after Christmas)

I enjoy the day by going out deer hunting with my family.



Can't remember who posted they got hurt from a customer - you should be entitled to workmans comp and take a few days off to recover from something like that.

I went shopping on Black Friday with my 2 best friends. None of us were able to be with family for Thanksgiving this year, so we had an earlyish Thanksgiving meal. I love to cook, so I went all out with locally grown organic food, including my $70 turkey! I spent the whole week cooking, so don't tell me we didn't have a real Thanksgiving! After we ate, we built a bonfire out in the pasture, and left the hubbies and kids to roast marshmallows and eat pie while the ladies went shopping. We got in line at Best Buy at 7 and got what we went for, the really nice Android tablets at about half price. We had fun playing verbal games with each other and chatting with the people we were in line with. There was no rioting, pushing or shoving. It was quite calm and friendly. Other customers even remembered each other, and when we had to use the restroom and lost our place in line, someone recognized us from when we were in line before and told us to get in in front of them! I had a great time, and we are planning to do the same next year if we are all here again. Except next year we will remember blankets! It was cold waiting outside!!!

I also agree that religion doesn't belong in a discussion about black Friday. Not everyone is Christian, and as for us, we bought these tablets for ourselves. Being typical moms, we never spend money on ourselves, but it's a heck of a lot easier to do it and not feel guilty when you can get a deal like this!

An American tradition originating from thankfullness to God followed by the obvious bad behavior of some who have too much. I find this very ironic. I stay home on black friday despite the good deals. The deals are better when they are on clearance or when they appear on Craigslist in a few months.
