Am I the only one who uses a large metal dog dish for my girls' water?

I use a plastic waterer raised up on a stump. I empty and refill every day, and while doing that, I just wipe it out with a paper towel. Once a week I clean it with hot water and detergent. I also use a plastic dispenser type feeder, but put it in a terra cotta plant saucer to catch the spill. I also use a terra cotta plant saucer for some of their treats. Works great and is easy to clean.

I use rubber bowls, so in the winter it's easy to break out the ice without breaking the dish, I also am bad at regular cleaning, though I do dump and refill twice a day. What they do in between is their business.

I have 2 water supplies for the monsters. A large 3 gallon one from TSC and a big rubber pig feed dish, also from TSC. The agreement between the birds and is is to keep the rubber one slimy and yucky so it attracts bugs and grows them stuff they like to eat. The actual water contraption we have all decided SUCKS. When I clean the rubber bowl they get very angry so I dump rinse fill, except for the once a week I use a toilet scrubber on it, bought spacific for the bird bowl.

I used to use bowls and what not but cleaning, filling, emptying every day is a hassle, or at least it's inconvenient when my birds drink about 10 gallons of water a day...

Now I use a 55 gallon drum with horizontal nipples, no cleaning, no hassle and the water is always clean... I installed a float valve in it, so I can either leave a hose connected so it's always refilled or I can simply hook the hose up every few days, no need to stand around while it fills...

There is also a heater, and small circulatory pump inside the 55 gallon drum, set to hold the water at about 45° in the winter, it's in my coop that I already heat to 35-40° so it should never freeze but I like to make sure...

For my goats and llamas, I cut a 55 gallon barrel in half and made a stand to hold it as a water trough, I have a hose suspended above it hooked up to a water timer, at 9am every day it automatically runs water for 10 minutes, overflowing the trough and putting in fresh water for the day... Llamas and goats are happy, they get fresh sold water daily and it stay pretty clean overall since it's flushed every day...

As an at home dad, with 3 young children anything I can automate makes life easier...

Mine have a 1-galon metal dog dish for water. Before winter hits I'll be switching to a rubber dish to help with the ice removal.
