Hello first time poster.

Question - I have red sex link hens and was wondering why they sometimes freeze and lower there bodies to the ground when I am near them or sometimes when I talk loud near them. Is this a mating squat position? When they do this I give them a little rub on there bums and they allways give a good feather fluff when they get up and walk away.

Cheers

Uh yep, you're the rooster alright.

LOL! My brother has chickens, no rooster. His hens will squat when the kids get near them. I know what it is, but the kids all think the hens are being nice and letting them pick them up.

If I surprise my hens, like walking around a corner too fast, they immediately go into the squat then give me a look like "oh! it's just you!".

I've had many hens do that over the years, even the ones not around a rooster.

My Girls don't have a rooster, so I consider it my duty to "give them a thrill" now and then. Some are easier to please than others, however... Alice always looks up at me and sqeaks if she needs a bit more attention.
