Hi everyone, my chicken Emma has been on and off acting a bit funny this week. She is a ~1 year old Golden Comet. All my chickens were recently moved to a new run and I'm sure they've been eating a good amount of grass. The weather has also been all over the pace with warm days then cool days. I want to make sure I'm doing the correct things for her.

Summary
  • 4/7 Huddled, puffed up, closing eyes etc. Thought she might be egg bound. Gave her a warm epsom salt bath and some vitamin water. Few hours later she laid a normal sized egg with a chalky outside on an otherwise normal shell. Acting totally normal after.
  • 4/8 Acting normal, didn't lay an egg
  • 4/9 Was acting lethargic again, Laid two soft eggs together, one normal size one tiny, fine after.
  • 4/10 No egg Acting fine
  • 4/11 Same as above
  • 4/12 Laid another soft egg overnight/early AM. Acting a bit lethargic again. Has sat in the nesting box once or twice over the last ~6 hours.
I'm guessing something has gone wrong with the amount of calcium in her body. I usually have egg shells for them every other day but I've switched and made sure there is plenty of oyster shell they can get when they want. I've also started today, given Emma a Calcium Citrate pill. No more snacks/treats for a while. Only their layer food down below.

Sure thing, it's Calcium Citrate +D3. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Equate-C...plements-Unflavored-2-Tablets-200-Ct/24681635

Thank you so much. Do I give The pill to her whole
Yeah, from what other have posts said you give them one whole pill a day until their eggs become normal again. I broke my pills in half and kinda just popped them in her mouth and she swallowed it no problems. Easiest way I found is to pick them up and hold them under your arm and open their mouth by gently pulling on the waddles with one hand and popping in the pill with the other

Awesome thank you so much. ☺️

I kind of want to nip it in the bud right now before it gets worse because she hatched and egg with no shell just the yolk and the shell was so soft it was hanging from her vent and it was yucky and I gave her a little wash down there she laid today but it was very soft I do give them oyster shells so but I don't think it's enough for her she lays huge eggs and most of them are double yoke and I think it's putting a lot of strain on her. I mean these things are huge I feel so bad for her.
