Hi all. So I am fairly experienced with recognizing a cockerel at a young age, but this one has me stumped. Tho i have my suspicions. This is my first batch of Ameracauna and I’m not used to the pea combs, so it’s harder for me
To distinguish. Also the hackle
And saddle feathers aren’t any different to me that the 2 Pullets in the photo with it. And no signs of waddles yet. 🤷‍♀️ So what do y’all think?

How old? Age is big for determining gender in young chickens.

I will say this; both chickens pictured are easter eggers, not ameraucana.

Also, as they are under a year old, they would be either pullets or cockerels. After a year old, they'll be hens or roosters.

I bought them From southern states and TSC, hatchery quality as Ameracauna. But could be Easter eggers. I know they don’t always breed them the same and use a million different names. 🤦‍♀️ I had Pullets and cockerel in my post. I’m an experienced chicken owner, I’m just not familiar with this breed or comb type. It’s 5 1/2 weeks old.

Its a tough one, The little bit of coloring on the comb says one thing... there is a spot in the saddle feather area that looks to have more pointed feathers but the legs are thinner like pullet. I had a Olive Egger that stumped everyone until he crowed. First pick is Pea comb on my 3 YO Ameraucana, the second is Pea comb on my 1 Ameraucana and 2 EE pullets. for reference. They were at 5 month ish and still had pink combs. They didn't lay until 9 months. I do have some EE pullets that have combs that are not pea. Ugh I don't know if I helped or made it worse lol

Haha I think you proved that it’s def more difficult to tell. So I don’t feel so bad. Lol. If the had a straight comb I’m sure if know by now! This is tough! 🙈. Beautiful chickens by the way, love this breed. Is the first pic a male
Or female? Seems like they don’t get “waddles” per say in this breed then. Which makes it even harder.
