I could not be a happier "Mother Hen". Two weeks in and I am totally in love with my chicks. They were sold to us via Ebay (with a high seller rating) as "Ameracaunas" but all my research on this site makes them seem to be EE.

Alpha- my "Sweetie bird" so calm and kind. This chick will climb right into my hand, loves to perch and have her "belly rubbed"

Tough Stuff (TS) This chick fought so hard to be here. She/HE had a really hard time coming out of her shell, almost didn't make it. Coulcn't walk for the first 24 hours but always had a strong peep. Loves Alpha and misses her when they are separated. Def. likes to be in charge. Slightly smaller body than Alpha, sparcer feather and smaller single comb. (both currently have single, yellow comb)

Are these chicks really Ameracauna's or are they EEs? Any guesses on gender or tips on how to determine with this type of chick?

Thanks! Happy to be part of this community :)

Their coloring doesn't look like any of the recognized colors. To be a true Ameraucana they must be one of the recognized colors. I wouldn't take my word for it since I don't even have mine yet. My wheatens / blue wheatens should hatch tonight/ tmrw.

They have that "chipmunk" look which didn't apply to the Ameracaunas that I saw on the list. That is what made me question. Any guesses on gender or have any tips for EE gender clues?

What color Ameraucanas were you under the impression you were buying?

Does that last one, Tough Stuff, have a straight comb?

(seller rating doesn't mean much, especially since so many people don't know the difference, or choose to ignore the difference, between EE's and Ameraucanas. Glad you have some cuties there, no matter what they are!)

We bought the eggs on Ebay for hatching. We incubated 12 but only yielded 3. One died while zipping. :'( Some weird foaming brown liquid had oozed out of the egg and then hardened in parts. The fourth egg had a blood ring. The remaining eggs were duds. (or as we call them "Supermarket Eggs") They were sold to us as Blue Ameracaunas, but after they hatched I noticed that they didn 't have any of the qualities. Doesn't matter to me though, I love them all the same regardless of their Ameracauna or EE status.

Tough Stuff does have a small, yellow, single comb. Alpha's is much more pronounced and ridgey, but yellow. Does that help determine gender?!

I think Alpha has a very pronounced single comb. What color eggs did these chicks hatch from? Maybe there was a mixup with your order and someone else's and they sent you the wrong eggs?

An Ameraucana should have what's called a "Pea comb", which would be much flatter to the chick's head. Not very bumpy. Same with an Easter Egger.

EE's, though, can have a single comb. It is just an indication, according to a lot of people who know way more than I do, that the hen won't lay a tinted egg, but a brown one instead.

I think it is only 3% of females with straight combs have the chance of blue eggs. Pea combs most of the time lay those blue eggs. Not aure how accurate this is but it's what I have been told.

Your chicks look like they have mish-mash pea and single combs. Meaning, they will have large pea combs that stand up straight and may flop over. I'm not seeing pure single combs on any of those birds, but my eyes are bad

The greenish legs definitely say that they are mixed birds. They also look like they may have beards and muffs. So I am still betting Easter Eggers. They are most definitely not Ameraucanas, but that is typical of a lot of ebay sellers (and sellers in general).
