She's the only one of 4 that isn't obvious, the 2 brahmas and the serama are obvious...but this one. Nothing. My brahma roo is crowing and mating, my brahma hen isn't laying. My serama hen today started showing interest in laying, but this one...nothing. No real wattle or comb, no crowing, no fighting, no laying...nothing. She was supposed to be pure ameracauna but a few weeks after she hatched she started sprouting black spikes out of her head! Turns out a sneaky polish boy got into the pen. I couldn't be happier...I think she's gorgeous. The pics don't do her justice.

hen, polish can be late sometimes on starting to lay

from what I see of her comb it might be soon. should lay a colored egg if her mom did. most of my polish cross to araucanas lay blue eggs

How old is she? No saddle/hackle feathers showing yet, so looks like a pullet, but depends on age.

If she is a pullet and has an Ameraucana type pea comb, it will be pale and show only a small raised ridge down the center until she gets close to laying. Cockerels with pea combs tend to have 3 rows of peas (3 ridges) showing by about 6 weeks and are red much earlier.

Of course with a cross, you never know.

Very pretty. I love the petite crests like that!

ETA: Ameraucanas don't get wattles.

Based on your comments, I'm assuming this one is 14+ weeks old so in that case looks like a girl to me. I also have a poofy headed EE - not sure how that happened, but I figured a polish got in there somewhere.. or who knows? Mine is definitely a pullet, but mine has obvious pullet colors. This is her long before she started laying..

I have one who looks real similar to her. I thought she might be a polish/blue andalusian mix, but she has a pea comb. Just waiting to see what she lays...

She is almost 6 months old. Yay! I'm glad she's probably a pullet. She's a flighty bird, but can be sweet. She seems to think my dog is going to kill her when my dog could care less. Its funny, and her and my serama hen (she laid her first egg today!) are best buds. They hang out in the flock but those two are endlessly side by side. And the serama crawls under her wing to sleep. Its so cute. They hatched together on the same day but you'd think my amX is her mom.

It's funny how they form their little chicken cliques! At 6 months, you should get an egg from her soon. Forgot to mention, but if she has a pea comb, she will be more likely to have the gene for blue eggs. How eggsciting!
